I’m an author who is also a homemaker and stay-at-home mom. When people find out I’m a real-life author, they actually seem to find my job fascinating. I’ve never had anyone ask what my real job is, but I am lucky in that I sell enough books to have a paying career. I think that when you claim something proudly—aka, I am an author—people don’t question it. Or maybe I’m very scary and no one wants to cross me.
Anyway, keep owning your chosen career path, but also know that most writers have other jobs too. Sad reality of the publishing world.
