Great piece! I personally, as someone with PTSD and self- harm tendencies, find them pointless. And like you, I want to support others going through similar situations.

Some of my readers put trigger warnings on their reviews of my books which I think is appropriate if someone hasn’t read the blurb. However, I don’t trigger warning my memoir or novels because it’s obvious from the cover copy what things will be discussed —mental illness, infidelity, etc. And yet, I get asked by some to trigger warn my book blurbs. If seeing the words “bipolar disorder” or “affair” trigger a reader, they need immediate help.
